Holiday Information about North East of Scotland
In the North East you will find Scotland's thirds largest city, Aberdeen, which owes its transformation from a small village to the discovery of oil in the 1960's.
The South of this area is mainly farmland and as you travel north of this region you'll find large mountains and wooded glens with the coast line becoming more rugged and large cliffs and large sandy beach area with an abundance of caravan and camping parks.
In the region you will find lots of evidence of the Picts who used to roam this land such as carved stones, churches and museums. Dundee is popular today with tourists for its culture and you can see Captain Scott's famous ship the Discovery. Inland you'll be presented with the Angus Glens which lead to the Grampian Mountains very popular with hikers and skiers and the area has lots of holiday cottages. Further north of the glens you will find Deeside famous for Balmoral, which has been entertaining the Royal family for years.
The Don valley, which is the Eastern side of the Cairngorm National Park, is further on and the north east coast has many historic fishing villages and craggy cliffs with remote beaches, coves and bays a great place for a cottage holiday or self catering apartment.
