The Cairngorm Mountains forms part of the Cairngorm National Park which is the largest national park in Britain. The Cairngorm Mountains are famous for outdoor activities such as water sports, biking, walking and skiing in the winter snows. The main starting point from a tourists point of view are the surrounding villages, well know for supplying equipment for outdoor activities, restaurants and shopping. Aviemore is one such village and the picturesque Grantown-on-Spey. Aviemore has tourist information and makes a great base for the regions winter sports. Most popular being skiing. This region is also unique as it its home to the Cairngorm Sleddog Adventure Centre the only one of its kind in the united Kingdom, where you can visit the kennels and host a small museum. The summer is home to other activities mainly waling and water sports. Other activities include pony trekking, mountain biking and there are plenty of places for fishing in the region. The water sports activities are well catered for in this region and you can try canoeing, sailing and windsurfing. North East of the Cairngorm Mountains and still within the national part is Speyside which is mainly used to describe the surrounding area of the River Spey. This region is also home to the Whisky Triangle and claims with over 50 distilleries including the well known Glenfiddich. This region also offers stunning scenery and numerous walks and home to some amazing wildlife.
