Caithness is an ideal option for a self catering holiday apartment or cottage and makes an ideal base for the numerous walks available in the region. Caithness has been pretty much untouched over the centuries and has loads of prehistoric monuments but not many are sign posted so you have to look for them. This region is also famous for numerous castles. Dunnet Head is the most northerly point of mainland Britain, although John O'Groats has falsely adopted this title it is regarded as the furthest point from Land's End.
Along the East Coast of Caithness you find numerous caravan and camping parks or cosy country cottages or self catering apartments and a good base to take in the thousands of sea birds, seals and abundance of wildlife in the region. You can get trips to Stroma to see the wildlife including puffins and if you go at the right time of year you may see a killer whale. The coastline offers stunning cliff views and walks. This is a great place to rent a rural cottage and explore the picturesque countryside.
