Dumfries and Galloway, located at the south western corner of Scotland, is a great place to stay in a rural holiday cottage or a self catering apartment and has its own coastline stretching along its southern side offering sandy beaches and coves known as the Solway Coast. Many of the castles and abbeys are built with the local red sandstone including Caerlaverock Castle and Sweetheart Abbey.

The region of Scotland is steeped in history dating back to the Picts and the Romans. Dumfries is a nice little town and you will find more buildings in the red sandstone unique to this area. The area is also well known for mountain bike trails for the more adventurous as well as numerous picturesque walks making it a good base to rent a holiday cottage, caravan and camping park, lodge cabin or a self catering apartment.
