The landscape ranges from Rocky Mountains to large areas of flat bog land. The Western Isles don't rely on tourism and keep there Gaelic culture and offers a tranquil and peaceful exploration and most of the road signs will be in Gaelic. Lewis the most northern Isle and is mainly moors and as you head south to North Harris you will find a mountain peaks as you travel further south of Harris you find some amazing scenery and golden beaches and ideal place to a cottage holiday.
The isles to the south are flatter and smaller linked by a causeway. To get a smaller overall idea of this landscape the island of Barra contains all these natural environments in one place. The ancient standing stones of Calanais can be found in Lewis.
